are cartoons considered films? cause if so, the answer to this question was such a no-brainer. i read the prompt and immediately yelled, “MS. BELLUM!!!”
seriously, let’s be honest. Ms. Bellum was a highly intelligent, gorgeous, and successful woman character.
on first glance, she appeared as the eye candy that accompanied the Mayor of Townsville. you know, the “beautiful woman with no brain whose only job is to sit there and be pretty” type. but really, she was the brains behind basically every decision that he made. he never made a decision without running it by her first. she demonstrated critical thinking, discernment, order and rationality, which are all important attributes in being the Mayor of the town—hence the name, Ms. Sara Bellum (cerebellum.)
because the powerpuff girls were created in the science lab of Professor Utonium, the powerpuff girls didn’t have a mother. Ms. Bellum served as the feminine figure that they did not have at home. she protected them and steered them in the right direction through her wisdom and encouragement, advice, class and leadership. she was always well-dressed, well-mannered and well-spoken and she possessed a hint of mystique, which is why her face was always cut off or covered.
this personally resonates because similar to the powerpuff girls, i was raised by my dad. my mother passed away when i was 2yrs old, so i did not physically have her to look up to. however, now that i’m 30 (as of 4/4), i can confidently say that i turned out to be one of the characters that i subconsciously admired as a child—the one and only, Ms. Sara Bellum: confident, poised, intelligent, stylish, well-spoken and more!
i attached a clip for your enjoyment. it’s the episode where Ms. Bellum saved the Powerpuff Girls from Sedusa. one of the few times, if not the only (?) time she’d gotten physical and even then, she exuded that cool, calm and collected demeanor.
