As we lay,

Chest to chest,

Heart to heart,

Soul to soul,

I can’t help but feel you.

Hear you.

See you.

All of your troubles.

All of your worries and fears.

Your moments of darkness.

All of you.

Why is it that you decide to hold back?

To conceal what truly troubles you?

My experiences are just as deep,

If not deeper than yours.

I can handle it.

I look into your eyes,

Your gaze as infinite as the ocean,

You know my strength.

You know my truth.

You know my core.

You know that I can handle whatever is thrown.

But you also know that I shouldn’t have to.

You see the precious jewel in me.

The delicacy of my heart.

The radiant light of my soul.

You couldn’t lay such a burden on me.

You would never.

You only want to protect me.

Shield me from the pains of this world,

From harm.

From the blemishes of life.

You’d do anything to see me smile.

To hear me laugh.

To catch that sparkle in my eye.

And so you refrain.
